Vol. 272 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offlay School.

23.

asked the Minister for Finance if a contract in respect of Shinrone national school, County Offlay, has been awarded; and if he will outline the present position.

The manager is being asked to lodge the local contribution and as soon as this has been received a contract will be placed for the erection of the school.

In the absence of Deputy Enright, may I ask the Parliamentary Secretary why the long delay in this? May I ask the Parliamentary Secretary when was this school first advertised for tender?

Mr. Kenny

Bills of quantity were completed for this school in June, 1973, but title to the extension to the site was not confirmed until September, 1973. As it had been decided to erect a school larger than that originally proposed, it was necessary to seek revised planning permission. Permission for the revised scheme was received in December, 1973, and tenders were invited in January, 1974, receivable on the 12th March, 1974. Therefore, when the local contribution is paid, the tender will then be placed and the erection of the school continued.
