asked the Minister for Lands if his Department made any representations to the appropriate EEC institutions prior to the publication of the proposed Council directive on forestry advocating that this directive should apply to public and private forestry operations in Ireland in view of the declining employment prospects and the growing importance of timber; and if he will state the nature of such representations.
Cavan): The special position of State afforestation in Ireland has been stressed in the course of discussion with representatives of the EEC both before and since the publication of the proposal for a directive on forestry. The proposal is still under examination and discussion.
