There are three basic directives on the structural reform of agriculture, 159, 160 and 161 of 1972. In this country the farm modernisation scheme introduced as from 1st February last is designed to implement Directive 159. The Minister for Lands has announced a voluntary retirement scheme for farmers in implementation of Directive 160 which is operative since 1st May. Proposals in relation to Directive 161 have been submitted to the EEC Commission and a few outstanding aspects of these are still under discussion with the Commission.
