In my reply of 26th June, 1973, I stated that it was proposed to strengthen one of the existing runways at Dublin Airport by constructing an asphalt overlay on it and I said that it was hoped to carry out the work during that financial year. While the necessary survey of the runway pavement was completed within that financial year it was not possible, because of other urgent engineering works, to have the work carried out within the year. It is now expected that the project will be completed during 1974 and the preliminary works to enable this to be done are already in progress.
