Vol. 272 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Promotion.

75.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will review the position of the rank of sergeant in the Garda force in view of the number of qualified men who have opted out of promotion.

Mr. R. Burke

While there was a slight reduction this year as compared with previous years in the percentage of qualified gardaí applying for promotion to the rank of sergeant, the Commissioner does not consider that there is any need to anticipate a shortage of suitable gardaí for promotion.

Mr. R. Burke

He might add the rank of inspectors.

Mr. R. Burke

And inspectors.
