asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether nuclear power has important advantages from the viewpoint of environmental protection.

Provided adequate precautions are taken nuclear power stations have important advantages over fossil fuelled stations from the viewpoint of the environment.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether nuclear stations in Ireland will meet the criteria of the International Commission on Radiological Protection.

The Nuclear Energy Act, 1971, provides that one of the functions of the Nuclear Energy Board is to prepare draft safety codes and regulations, taking into account relevant standards recommended by international bodies dealing with nuclear energy. The board will, accordingly, take account of the recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection in the preparation of draft safety codes and regulations.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will ensure that the waste heat of any Irish nuclear station will be used for the breeding of fish.

The Electricity Supply Board are keeping under review the possibility of using waste heat from nuclear power stations for various purposes including the breeding of fish.
