Vol. 273 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Forestry Employment.

47.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the forestry workers who are, or were, engaged on work in the Pettigo area, County Donegal, are seeking an inquiry into the diminishing employment prospects there; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

48.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the forestry workers who are, or were, employed on forestry work in the Pettigo area of County Donegal, are seeking an inquiry into the circumstances which have brought about the decline in forestry development in the area while the intake of plantable land is satisfactory; and if such an inquiry will be held.

(Cavan): With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 47 and 48 together.

The level of employment at Lettercran and Pettigo Forests is the subject of an inquiry by the Labour Court which will be held at Ballyshannon, County Donegal, in the near future.

Pending the outcome of this inquiry, I do not feel that a statement would be appropriate.

If I repeat the question after the inquiry is completed I have no doubt the Minister will make a statement.

(Cavan): I will consider it.
