Vol. 273 No. 6

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Business in the following order: Nos. 1, 18 and 19 and, in No. 19. Vote 43 (resumed).

I would like to ask the Taoiseach whether the Government will arrange for a debate at an appropriate time on the Northern Ireland situation in view of the concern that is widely felt following recent developments and in order to ensure that our interest in the developing situation in seeking a political solution is maintained and ensured. When I say " our interest" I mean the interest of the Oireachtas.

It will be possible, I think, to arrange a debate at the appropriate time. I suggest the Whips might discuss the actual arrangement.

Might I ask the Taoiseach whether, in view of the public disquiet over last Sunday's events in Dublin, Mullingar and Ballina, it is the intention of the Government to make an immediate statement on the matter?

No, it is not the intention.

Would Deputy L'Estrange like to make a statement, and Deputy Kelly, Parliamentary Secretary to the Taoiseach, and all the other law and order men?

(Interruptions.)

Will the House be sitting next week?

On what days?

On Thursday and Friday.
