Vol. 273 No. 13

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Community School Amenities.

32.

asked the Minister for Education when he will make money available for the development of community participation in the amenities of the community school.

The question of the development of adult education which will, of course, involve community participation and the use, generally of school facilities, is at present under examination by me.

Is there some difficulty in deciding which Department make money available for the proper use of the amenities in the community schools as at present constituted?

Mr. R. Burke

If the Deputy is referring to the sports complex attached to the community schools, there is no difference of opinion.

Can I take it that moneys will be available from his Department to enable people to participate in and make use of sports facilities in the community and comprehensive schools?

Mr. R. Burke

I did not say there would be money available from my Department; I said that these facilities will be made available to the public.

Is the Minister aware that certain employees will be needed to look after swimming pools, and so on? Has he decided who will pay these people?

Mr. R. Burke

These details are still being worked out. I will make a public statement in that regard as soon as possible.
