As I indicated in reply to a question by the Deputy on 5th July, 1973, the formulation of measures to relieve traffic congestion in the Dublin area is the responsibility of the road authorities concerned—Dublin Corporation, Dublin County Council and Dún Laoghaire Corporation. They are taking action, in consultation with CIE where appropriate, on a number of fronts in discharge of their responsibilities, with due regard to environmental, financial and other relevant considerations. Such action includes the use of traffic management measures and the planning and execution of substantial road works. While transportation planning is essentially an ongoing and developing process, the comprehensive Dublin transportation study of 1971 affords a reasonable framework for the work of the authorities concerned, work which may involve detailed study of specific aspects and areas.
Is the Minister aware that Dublin Corporation's various road plans seem to change from month to month? Is there any way in which we can bring this situation to finality?
I would not agree with the Deputy that they have been changing from month to month. I believe they have changed far too often over a number of years. I should like very much to see them brought to finality. That is what I am hoping will happen now.
The Minister himself changed one of them.
That is surely irrelevant.
Can the Minister do something more than just hope that the situation will be brought to finality because no one can make any concrete plans until the corporation make up their minds?
I am hoping that members of the new corporation will take an interest and assist me in my hope of having something done within a reasonable time.
