asked the Taoiseach if he will indicate the increases in the cost-of-living index in the year ended 30th September, 1974, in terms of the percentage increase on the various individual items which comprise that index.

The consumer price index is calculate in respect of mid-February, mid-May, mid-August and mid-November each year.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the percentage change between mid-August, 1973, and mid-August, 1974, in the average prices of the items covered by the consumer price index.

Following is the statement:
