Vol. 275 No. 4

Written Answers. - Export Markets.

390.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the extent to which this country's exports have found new markets as a result of its being a party to EEC trade agreements with non-member states.

Accession to EEC and participation in its trade agreements have led not so much to new markets as to the expansion of exports to existing markets. The major benefit to our exports resulted from participation in Community trade agreements with non-acceding EFTA countries to each of which exports in 1973 showed considerable increase over 1972. The increase in exports to these countries as a single market in 1973 showed an increase of more than 100 per cent over 1972.
