Vol. 275 No. 8

Ceisteanna——Questions. Oral Answers. - Drink Prices Control.

153.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement on his zoning plan in regard to public house prices.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the proposals for the control of drink prices which are contained in the National Prices Commission's report for July, 1974. These proposals are being examined. In the meantime, as will be seen from paragraph 32 of that report, interested persons or organisations are free to submit comments on these proposals to the commission.

Might I ask the Minister if, in effect, the threats he has made to various publicans in Dublin city— which have been ignored and over-ruled——

Again, the Deputy is not following the question asked.

——have meant that they have been allowed to increase drink prices, as they felt inclined, without the Minister giving sanction?

Sir, I object to this absolutely. The Minister made a statement to the effect that drink prices could not go up and then——

The Deputy will appreciate that this is Question Time and there can be no arguments put forward at Question Time.

I am not looking for an argument. I am asking the Minister very simply if it is true that Dublin publicans put up drink prices and the Minister can do nothing about it?

With the help of the Chair, the Minister has done nothing.
