Vol. 275 No. 8

Ceisteanna——Questions. Oral Answers. - Trout Fishing Regulations.

8.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will introduce fishing regulations directing that any trout caught in Irish waters which is less than 12 inches in length should be returned to the water.

Legal minimum size limits varying from eight inches to 12 inches for trout have been laid down in regulations in respect of different parts of the country. According to the scientific advice available to me it is not desirable that the legal minimum size limit for trout should be uniform for the entire country and so I do not propose to introduce regulations as suggested by the Deputy.
