Vol. 275 No. 8

Ceisteanna——Questions. Oral Answers. - Closing of Border Roads.

65.

Mr. McLaughlin and Mr. Gilhawley

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the steps he is taking to have the Cashel Road from Kiltyclogher, County Leitrim reopened; and if he is aware of the hardship being imposed on the local people on both sides of the Border.

66.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his Department received prior information of the fact that the British Army were to close the roads into Kiltyclogher, County Leitrim.

67.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will take steps to have an approved road opened into Kiltyclogher from County Fermanagh.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 65, 66 and 67 together.

On being notified by the British authorities that a number of roads, including some in the Kiltyclogher area, would be closed, we conveyed our strong reservations on the whole question of road closures. I am fully aware of the hardship which these closures cause to persons on both sides of the Border and am at present involved in discussions with a view to reaching a solution satisfactory to all the parties concerned.
