Vol. 275 No. 8

Ceisteanna——Questions. Oral Answers. - Fuel and Energy Concerns.

131.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will consider setting up a unified body of fuel and energy concerns so that the best returns will be achieved from all sources of fuel, both native and imported.

I have recently set up an Advisory Committee on Energy Conservation. In addition to coordinating current and proposed fuel economy schemes, the committee have been asked to advise on new conservation measures. The committee are comprised of officers from my Department, the Departments of Finance, Local Government, Industry and Commerce, the Office of Public Works, the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards, Foras Forbartha, the National Science Council, the Industrial Development Authority and the ESB. The committee are also keeping in touch with energy conservation measures abroad, especially in the EEC, where a working party, on which Ireland is represented by my Department, is preparing a Community programme for the rational use of energy.
