Vol. 276 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment for Handicapped.

49.

asked the Minister for Health if he is satisfied that openings in industry are readily available to young people who have received some training in workshops for the handicapped.

The number of handicapped persons placed in open employment in 1973 through the National Rehabilitation Board was 700.

Employers on the whole readily accept handicapped persons, provided they have the potential to do a reasonable job. I consider that there is a need to extend and improve the facilities for training the handicapped and I am at present considering ways and means of doing just that.
