Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vehicle and Horse Box Imports.

107.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the Revenue Commissioners have received complaints about the illegal importation or the illegal use of motor cars registered in Northern Ireland; and, if so, the number of vehicles involved in the complaints, the dates the complaints were received, whether the complaints have been investigated and the outcome of the investigations.

108.

asked the Minister for Finance if the Revenue Commissioners have received complaints about the illegal importation of motorised horse boxes from outside the State; the number of vehicles involved in the complaints; the dates on which the complaints were received; whether the complaints have been investigated; and the outcome of the investigations.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 107 and 108 together.

The Revenue Commissioners received representations on 23rd September, 1974, regarding the illegal importation of an unspecified number of motor cars and motorised horse boxes. The illegal importation of motor vehicles had been under close investigation and the representations referred to were pursued in this general context. Many vehicles, including motor cars and horse boxes have been seized in recent times and legal proceedings have been instituted in a number of cases. Investigation of the abuses complained of is still being pursued.
