Vol. 277 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Court Clerks Pay.

54.

asked the Minister for Justice when he proposes to resolve the question of (a) pay increases for junior court clerks and (b) leave for senior court clerks; and if he will make a statement in the matter.

The pay and leave allowances of court clerks are matters appropriate for discussion under the scheme of conciliation and arbitration for the Civil Service. A pay claim on behalf of junior clerks is at present before the departmental conciliation council, the proceedings of which are confidential. There is no subsisting claim in relation to leave for senior court clerks.

With regard to the junior clerks, will the Minister state when these people will be paid the award?

Their claim is being processed. The conciliation and arbitration process is confidential and that confidentiality is binding on me and on the staff side.

Surely the decision is not confidential?

No. The decision will be announced by the appropriate body when the claim is processed.
