Vol. 277 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bray Boundary Wall.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the NBA will commence building the boundary wall between the Old Court housing scheme, Boghall, and the Slievenamon House property at Bray, County Wicklow.

The National Building Agency have no function in this matter which is one for Wicklow County Council and the owner of the property concerned.

As a member of Wicklow County Council I can tell the Minister that we have been told that we have no function in this and that it is part of the overall cost of the scheme.

This scheme of 240 houses was built for Wicklow County Council by Sisk Construction Limited under the former guaranteed order project. The scheme was completed during the year ended March, 1974, and was taken over by the council. There is no provision for the wall in the contract and it is a matter between Wicklow County Council and the owner of the land whether or not the wall is to be erected.

Is the Minister aware that the engineer and the county manager in Wicklow informed me on Monday week that this was a matter for the NBA?

May I give the Deputy the information he has required? No provision was made in the contract for the erection of a wall or fence on the boundary between the Old Court housing scheme and the adjoining Slievenamon house property. The question of building a boundary wall was discussed and agreed by Wicklow County Council, subject to the owner of the Slievenamon house property agreeing to pay 50 per cent of the cost. Wicklow County Council wrote to the owner of Slievenamon House but go no reply and, so far, no reply has been received to the council's proposal. The NBA are not involved. Therefore, it is simply a matter for Wicklow County Council.
