Vol. 277 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wicklow CPOs.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction the CPO by Wicklow County Council in respect of lands at Blessington, County Wicklow.

I will give my decision on this order as soon as possible.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction the CPO by Wicklow County Council in respect of lands at Enniskerry, County Wicklow.

I confirmed this compulsory purchase order on 13th January, 1975.

21. Mr. C. Murphy asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction the CPO by Wicklow County Council in respect of lands at Ballymorris, Bray, County Wicklow.

I will give my decision on this order as soon as possible.

I deliberately let Question No. 19 go. In view of the urgency and what is involved in this— that is, hopefully a school for September—might I ask the Minister if he could come to some decision on this within the next couple of days?

For Deputy Murphy's information, the position is that there were two objections to the order. A public local inquiry was held on the 11th September, 1974. The transcript of evidence given at the inquiry is not yet available. As soon as it is available, I will have an order made. I have asked that it be dealt with—as in the case of all CPOs—as soon as possible.

This, or a similar CPO, carrying a different emphasis on the part of the county council, came to light approximately eight or nine months ago. Might I ask the Minister is that correct?

The Deputy is imparting information rather than seeking it. That is not in order.

I hope that, in an effort to try to help the Minister to arrive at a decision on this——

I shall have to call the next question if the Deputy persists.

In view of what Deputy Murphy has said, let me say that the first proposal came from Wicklow County Council on the 19th July, 1974. That is barely six months ago. At present, compulsory purchase orders are being dealt with within a period of that order, of less than six months, compared with two and three years formerly. Therefore, I think it is only fair that credit be given where it is due.

Question No. 22, please.

I should like the Minister to bear in mind also that I mentioned there had been an earlier effort made which failed.

The Deputy continues to make speeches. Question No. 22, please.
