Vol. 277 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Lighting.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction the proposal of Cork County Council to provide improved public lighting on the main road through the town of Youghal.

Proposals for an improved public lighting scheme on this road—largely a national primary route —are being jointly examined by my Department, the Cork County Council and the ESB, with a view to the settlement of a scheme.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that street lighting in Borris-in-Ossory, County Laois is in need of improvement; and the action he intends taking to remedy the position.

I understand that the scheme of public lighting on the national primary road through Borris-in-Ossory is not considered to be of modern standards. It is within the competence of the local authority to arrange for the improvement of the scheme of street lighting in the town. The general instructions accompanying notifications of Road Fund grants enable the cost of such schemes to be charged against the appropriate grant.
