Vol. 278 No. 6

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Portmarnock (Dublin) Garda Station.

37.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will arrange for the provision of a Garda station in the Portmarnock area, County Dublin.

The police needs of the Portmarnock area are at present being examined by the Garda research and planning unit. Pending completion of the survey and consideration of the unit's findings, the Commissioner is not in a position to say if the provision of a station in the area would be warranted.

When does the Minister expect this review will be completed and the report presented to him?

I do not have a date as to when the survey is likely to be completed but these things are completed without undue delay. As soon as the findings of the survey team are available to the Commissioner they will be passed on to me and any action needed will be taken.

I assume this survey is not solely directed at the Portmarnock district? Would the Minister agree to survey the whole of the north county area with a view to updating the position?

The Deputy is correct in assuming that it is not confined to the Portmarnock district; in fact, it takes in Malahide and Baldoyle also.
