asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number and location of Irish troops engaged on UN peace keeping missions.

There are at present 2 officers and 4 NCO's from the Defence Forces serving with the United Nations peace-keeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). All of them are in Nicosia.

In addition, there are 21 Irish officers attached to the United Nations Truce Supervisory Organisation in the Middle East (UNTSO). Seven of these have been detached to serve with the United Nations Disengagement Force (UNDOF) which is supervising the disengagement agreement between Israel and Syria. A further two have been detached to serve with the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) which is supervising the disengagement agreement between Israel and Egypt. The officers are based in Jerusalem, Ismailia, Cairo, Damascus, Tiberias and Kantara.
