Vol. 279 No. 7

Written Answers. - Liner Conferences.

197.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether the Irish delegates voted for the convention on a code of conduct for liner conferences; whether Ireland proposes to ratify the convention; and the policy of the Government in relation to flags of convenience.

Ireland was not represented at the conference held in Geneva in April, 1974 by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) which adopted a Convention on a Code of Conduct for Liner Conferences.

No decision has yet been taken about the ratification of the convention by this country.

The Government, in conformity with their obligations as a member of the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organisation (IMCO) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), are opposed in principle to flags of convenience.
