Vol. 279 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tidy Towns Liaison Committee.

60.

asked the Minister for Education if he will make arrangements for the establishment of a Tidy Towns Liaison Committee representative of his Department and the Departments of Local Government and Transport and Power to encourage participation by pupils in primary and post-primary schools in the Bord Fáilte Tidy Towns competitions.

Mr. R. Burke

The Tidy Towns competitions organised by Bórd Fáilte have their main impact locally and it does not seem to me that a central liaison committee from Departments of State could make any major contribution towards encouraging local participation.

Would the Minister not consider asking selected groups of students to go to County Cavan to view four towns that won the All-Ireland Tidy Towns Competition?
