asked the Minister for Health if, in respect of the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, Dublin, he will give the following information for 1974: (a) the number of patients admitted (i) from the waiting list and (ii) as emergencies (b) the number of (i) acute and (ii) non-acute operations undertaken (c) the number of patients attended in the outpatients department (d) the numbers admitted from regions other than the eastern (i) from the waiting list and (ii) as emergencies (e) the present state and extent of the waiting list and (f) the number of surgical cases transferred from regions other than the eastern which were (i) acute and (ii) non-acute.

The Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital were asked to furnish the information sought by the Deputy but some of it is not readily available and will be supplied later.

The information available at present is as follows:

(a) During 1974, there were 6,600 admissions to the hospital, of whom (i) 4,955 were from the waiting list, and (ii) 1,645 were emergency cases.

(b) The number of (i) acute operactions carried out in 1974 was 971 and (ii) non-acute operations totalled 4,076.

(c) The number of patients attended to in the out-patients department was 70,602.

(e) On 11th April, 1975, there were 205 names on the waiting list for eye operations and 463 for ear, nose and throat operations.

When the information requested in (d) and (f) of the question comes to hand, I will pass it on to the Deputy.
