Vol. 279 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Meath Weir.

109.

asked the Minister for Defence if has Department will arrange to have the weir at Knocknegin Bridge near Gormanstown, County Meath repaired as it was damaged by a machine which was worked on the river following instructions by the Army and in view of the deterioration of the fishing industry in the area.

I am having inquiries made in this matter and will communicate the result to the Deputy as quickly as possible.

Has the Minister any report of what happened?

I have read the file and there is no clear report. Investigations are taking place but there is not a clear report.

Is the Minister aware that this vehicle was either an Army vehicle or one that was being demonstrated to the Army? Is he aware that to put the vehicle through its paces it was driven up the river and that during this journey it smashed the weir? Is the Minister aware that the damage to the weir is affecting the fishing in the area and that the Gormanstown and District Anglers' Club are concerned that the weir be repaired?

I have taken note of what the Deputy said and he can take it that the matter will be dealt with as quickly as possible.
