asked the Minister for Local Government if he proposes to initiate legislation to provide for equal rating reliefs under all headings for owners of agricultural land in urban districts similar to those available to their counterparts outside urban districts; and whether he considers that such equal rating reliefs will expedite urban boundary extension proposals in urban districts now adversely affected by a shortage of development land.

The existing legislation governing the relief of rates on agricultural land is due to expire on the 31st December, 1975, and amending legislation would, therefore, be necessary to deal with reliefs beyond that date. While the points raised by the Deputy could be considered in conjunction with the preparation of such legislation, I cannot give any commitment on the outcome of such consideration.
