Vol. 280 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork School and Community Centre.

18.

asked the Minister for Education if he will arrange discussions between his Department which is building a new primary school at Freemount, County Cork, and the local community council which is building a community centre, so that the two buildings will be complementary to each other and in order to save money in the building process.

Mr. R. Burke

A proposal that the proposed community centre be accepted as meeting the requirement for a general purposes room in the new national school at Freemount was put to my Department. The Commissioners of Public Works were consulted and they agree in principle with the proposal: they are now in correspondence with the school manager as to its implementation. In the circumstances I do not think that discussion between my Department and the local community council on the matter is necessary, but I have arranged that, should it appear at any stage that such discussion is called for, officers of my Department will meet representatives of the community council, together with the school manger.
