Vol. 280 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Sligo Housing.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of supplementary housing grants paid by Sligo County Council in the year ended 31st March, 1975.

In the year ended 31st March, 1975, Sligo County Council paid supplementary grants in respect of 100 new houses, 134 reconstructions and 144 water and sewerage installations.

Can the Minister say whether or not those figures include any existing houses bought under the tenant purchase scheme?

The reconstruction ones might. I have not got the information because it was not sought. The reconstruction and water sewerage grants would naturally apply to any houses but the 100 new houses are new houses.

I am asking the Minister if the figures he has given include grants allowed under the tenant purchase scheme for existing houses?

The Minister is positive?

I am positive.

Then, where are those figures to be reckoned with in the Department's statistics?

If Deputy MacSharry wants to find out that information, the best way he can do so is to go to Sligo County Council who can give him all the figures necessary at the drop of a hat.

Sligo County Council are not saying they built 26,000 houses——

Sligo County Council did not build 26,000 houses. They built 100 new ones.

Did the Minister?

No, the builders of this country built them.

That is very smart.

Is the Minister aware that massive redundancies have taken place in the building industry during the past year?

We are getting off the subject matter of this Question altogether.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of houses built by Sligo County Council in the year ended 31st March, 1975.

The number was 60, including 20 demountable or mobile homes.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of houses sold by Sligo County Council under the tenant purchase scheme in the year ended 31st March, 1975.

In the year ended 31st March, 1975, Sligo County Council sold 70 dwellings under their tenant purchase scheme.

Were they included in the figure given in reply to Question No. 11?

For the third time, they were not included in the figure referred to. If Deputy MacSharry can substract 70 from the number given, he will know whether or not they were included.

I wanted to find out whether or not they were included in the Minister's statistics.

I want to make it very clear that the only council houses included in the statistics given were those which were finished in the year referred to. Deputy MacSharry is getting somewhat confused. If he continues, he might even confuse me.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of housing loans paid by Sligo County Council in the year ended 31st March, 1975.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to house purchase loans.

The number of such loans which were fully paid or of which final instalments were paid in the year ended 31st March, 1975, by Sligo County Council was 95.
