Vol. 281 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Laboratory Technician.

2.

asked the Minister for Health when a laboratory technician will be appointed in Our Lady's Hospital, Cashel, County Tipperary.

I understand that the South-Eastern Health Board advertised the post after it became vacant last October but without success. The board propose to readvertise the vacancy towards the end of June next when another group of qualified persons are expected to be available.

In view of the fact that there has not been a technician there for almost a year would the Minister not consider making a temporary appointment from somewhere else to help the hospital staff?

The firm information is that they are not available. The post became vacant in 1974 and all efforts to fill it proved in vain. The vacancy was advertised in November, 1974, but there were no qualified applicants. The vacancy was advertised on a second occasion but again without success. When the final examinations for the Association of the Institute of Medical Laboratory Technicians is over there is the possibility that when it is advertised some of them will accept. I hope they will.
