asked the Minister for Social Welfare the amount paid in unemployment assistance and unemployment benefit in each employment exchange at the weekend for which the latest figures are available.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report. Following is the statement:

11.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of unemployment assistance recipients who have had their weekly payments reduced by an amount derived from benefit or privilege of board and lodging in 1974, 1973, 1972 and 1971.

My Department do not maintain records which would enable the information sought by the Deputy to be given.

12.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why unemployment benefit was refused to a person (name supplied) in County Kerry.

The person concerned made a claim for unemployment benefit on 6th May, 1974. The claim was disallowed by a deciding officer on the ground that the statutory condition for receipt of unemployment benefit which requires a claimant to be available for employment was not satisfied. The decision of the deciding officer was upheld by an appeals officer after an oral hearing at which the claimant attended and gave evidence. A further claim for unemployment benefit was made in 7th March, 1975, and this claim was also disallowed by a deciding officer on the same ground. The claimant was notified of the decision and of her right of appeal.
