Vol. 281 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bank Vole.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance if, further to a recent reply, he will state whether the bank vole frequents places other than Cork, Kerry, Clare and Tipperary and indicate its nesting habits and its regular diet.

Mr. Kenny

I am informed that in addition to the areas mentioned the bank vole is also found in County Limerick. It lives in hedgerows, banks, scrub and woodlands with good undergrowth, usually nesting in good ground cover but sometimes in burrows and occasionally in old birds' nests made from dried grass and lined with moss. Its diet consists mainly of berries, seeds and other vegetable matter.
