I have no proposals for development of the Shannon estuary, but preparation of legislation for setting up of a unified harbour authority for the area generally is well advanced. The new authority, if and when established, will have responsibility under the Harbours Acts for management and operation of the various ports or harbours on the Shannon.
Can the Minister say when the joint harbour authority will be set up?
No. It will be pretty soon. It will not be delayed for 12 months or anything like that.
Is it not a fact that the Minister's decision is awaited with regard to the proposals and that that is the only thing holding it up?
No. We are awaiting legislation. I will bring in the legislation as soon as I can. The Deputy will appreciate that legislation is not moving as fast as it might be. I hope to introduce the legislation before the summer recess and to have it debated after the summer recess.
