Vol. 282 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Industry.

2.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there is any prospect of an industry being established in Rathmullan, County Donegal, in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been informed by the Industrial Development Authority that, together with An Bord Iascaigh Mhara, they are negotiating with a firm with a view to the settingup of a fish processing facility in Rathmullan. The promoters are expected to submit a detailed proposal to the IDA in the near future. The project would have a substantial employment content.

Rathmullan should also benefit from the employment opportunities afforded by the Courtaulds project at Letter-kenny.

Can I take it that this industry has every prospect of proceeding?

The situation is that the negotiations which were temporarily held up have been reopened and the IDA are awaiting detailed proposals but the IDA will certainly move briskly when those detailed proposals arrive. The ball is not currently in their court and there is no hold up on the State side and no wish to hold it up.
