Vol. 282 No. 8

Written Answers. - Navan Post Office Facilities.

252.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in view of the lack of facilities in Navan post office, County Meath (details supplied) he will consider (i) the full manning of the existing counter facilities whenever the office is open to the public (ii) the provision of extra counter facilities to obviate unnecessary queuing and (iii) the acquisition of the adjacent premises with a view to extending the premises in its present central position or, alternatively, the renting of rooms in the nearby community centre.

It would not be necessary or economic to staff all the existing counter facilities at Navan except during pressure periods.

Plans are in hands to provide a new counter within the next few months which will provide extra facilities when required during pressure periods. The acquisition of the adjacent premises is not contemplated. There is reason to expect that a site for a new post office will become available in the near future. The renting of rooms is not warranted at present in view of the improved facilities which will shortly be available but the matter will be kept under review.
