Vol. 284 No. 5

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

109.

asked the Minister for Health if health boards are obliged to take into account when assessing means the fact that an applicant for a medical card has free housing and free vegetables.

The statutory requirement for eligibility for the general medical service is that it would be an undue hardship on a person to arrange general practitioner services for himself and his dependants. The determination of a person's eligibility and the specific factors to be considered in relation to the eligibility of any particular individual is a function of the appropriate chief executive officer.
