Vol. 285 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Parks and Monuments.

22.

asked the Minister for Finance if Deputies are entitled to access free of charge to national parks, forest parks and national monuments in the course of their Parliamentary duties; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am advised that Deputies are not entitled to free admission to any of the places mentioned where charges are exacted. However, any Member of the Oireachtas wishing to visit such places in the course of his parliamentary duties would be exempted from the charge on application beforehand to the Department concerned.

23.

asked the Minister for Finance the progress that has been made since April, 1974 with regard to the establishment of further national parks.

For the purpose of establishing national parks the Commissioners of Public Works have acquired the Glenveagh Estate, County Donegal, containing about 25,000 acres and have completed negotiations for the purchase of an area of about 2,500 acres in Connemara.
