Vol. 285 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Royal Hospital, Kilmainham.

33.

asked the Minister for Finance if the reconstruction work on the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, Dublin has been completed; the use to which the buildings will be put when available; and in whom the ownership of the hospital is deposited.

The first stage of the restoration of the Royal Hospital building which consisted of the elimination of dry rot and the restoration of the fabric in the north wing has been completed.

Proposals are at present being considered for the restoration of the remainder of the buildings and it is hoped that it may be possible to make a start on this work about the end of next year.

Portions of the building are being used by the folk-life section of the National Museum and the use of the premises generally, when restored, for museum purposes is being examined.

The hospital is vested in the Minister for Finance under the Royal Hospital Kilmainham Act, 1962.
