Vol. 285 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wealth Tax.

5.

asked the Minister for Finance the type of bloodstock being taken into account by the Revenue Commissioners in the making of assessments under the Wealth Tax Act, 1975.

For the purposes of making assessments under the Wealth Tax Act, 1975, bloodstock will be interpreted as meaning horses of all kinds.

Horses of all kinds? Does that exclude racing stock? Does it include three-quarter breds, half-breds, show jumpers and so on? Horses of all sorts are included. Is that definite?

It includes any mare, yearling, pony, foal, colt, filly, stallion and also any ass, mule, or jennet.

That would be relevant to the other side of the House.

There would be a response from the Deputy's side of the House too.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say why people who are considered to be experts in his Department could not help me when I was trying to help other people to fill up their assessment forms for wealth tax? Three weeks ago they would not give me that information. Could the Parliamentary Secretary say why?

The Deputy has asked for it now and got it.

I asked for it when the Dáil was not sitting. It is rather serious that one of the people who, I understand, is an acknowledged expert on the wealth tax could not answer that question. The Minister could not answer the question in the corridor last week. It is a quick decision by the Coalition.

Is the Deputy satisfied that he now has the information?
