Vol. 285 No. 9

Written Answers. - Old Age Pension Book.

219.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to have an old age pension book issued to a person (name supplied) in County Cork.

An old age pension book is not due for issue to the person concerned. Her husband is in receipt of an old age (contributory) pension from 27th November, 1974, which is now at the weekly rate of £19.35 including an increase of £8.30 in respect of her.

In connection with a claim to a non-contributory old age pension made by the person concerned the local pension sub-committee decided on 14th August, 1975, that, subject to the provisions of section 20 of the Social Welfare (Amendment) Act, 1960, she would be entitled to a partial old age, non-contributory, pension of £1.85 weekly from 4th April, 1975. Under the provisions of section 20 of the 1960 Act, as amended by section 13 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1966, however, the person concerned would be entitled to receive a non-contributory pension in her own right in lieu of the increase in her husband's contributory pension in respect of her only if the rate of non-contributory pension applicable in her case exceeded the amount of that increase.
