Vol. 285 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo School.

28.

asked the Minister for Education when an extra teacher will be sanctioned for Currabaggin national school, Knockmore, Ballina, County Mayo.

29.

asked the Minister for Education when extra rooms will be added to Currabaggin national school, Ballina, County Mayo.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 28 and 29 together.

As Currabaggin national school has now attained the enrolment figure necessary for the appointment of a fourth assistant teacher, sanction for such an appointment will be forthcoming subject to the division of one of the classrooms by a partition which the school manager intends to have erected.

The overall position in regard to the provision of extra accommodation at Currabaggin national school has been examined in conjunction with my Department's proposals to extend the school as a central school for the pupils of Cloghans, Lisaniska and Shraheen districts. In this regard, I would refer to my reply to the question from the Deputy on 30th April, 1975. In view of strong objections to these proposals locally, I have decided to defer for the present my decision on the educational requirements of the area and, at the same time, to defer consideration of building proposals for any of the schools including Currabaggin.
