Vol. 285 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway School.

49.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the proposal to provide a new girl's secondary school at Salthill in replacement of Salerno Secondary School, Rockbarton, Salthill, Galway.

My Department has informed the Salerno school authorities that their application for a grant toward the cost of providing a new school building will be considered when the question of providing a new site has been clarified. The negotiations regarding the proposed site are still proceeding.

We were told about Salerno.

Is it the position that the school authorities at the Galway end are awaiting a decision from the Minister's office or the office of Public Works and that they have, in fact indicated agreement on their part regarding the provisional site?

There are matters in regard to the site which have to be clarified with another Department.

Could the Minister say what is holding up the matter?

Questions in respect of that should, I think, be addressed to another Department.

The Board of Works.
