There are no statistics available to show either the total number of small retail businesses in the State or the number of such businesses which are not obliged to register for VAT because their turnover is below the appropriate level for VAT registration.
The VAT returns and statistics are not kept in such a form as to show the number of small businesses registered for the tax or their total payments.
The Deputy will appreciate that in the circumstances it is not possible to give the figures sought.
