Vol. 286 No. 12

Written Answers. - Parking of Post Office Vehicles.

187.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why vehicles from his Department are constantly parked on a clearway between Parnell Bridge and Emmet Bridge, Dublin; whether alternative parking exists and, if so, where and why it is not being used; if he is satisfied with the security provided for the vehicles; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Vehicles belonging to my Department have been parked on the clearway in question during non-working hours by their drivers contrary to official instructions. The Department have suitable parking space available at two convenient centres but the drivers have refused to use this, apparently as a form of unofficial industrial action. On the general issue involved the Department have been in touch with the union representing the men concerned and the failure to carry out instructions is being pursued on a disciplinary basis with the individual drivers. I much regret that inconvenience should be caused unnecessarily to the public.
