70.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of Irish troops now engaged in UN peace-keeping activities; and if he will give details of the numbers in each peace-keeping force and their location.

One officer and four NCOs from the Defence Forces are serving with the United Nations peace-keeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). They are all serving in Nicosia.

In addition there are 21 Irish officers attached to the United Nations Truce Supervisory Organisation in the Middle East (UNTSO). Six of these have been detached to serve with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) which is supervising the disengagement agreement between Israel and Syria. The officers are based in Jerusalem, Tiberias, Damascus, Ismailia, Cairo and in the southern Lebanon at Naquora.
