Vol. 288 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sheep Numbers.

4.

Mr. Kitt

asked the Taoiseach the percentage drop in sheep numbers for the years ended (a) December, 1974, and (b) December, 1975.

The estimated percentage drop in total sheep numbers was (a) 4.7 per cent between December, 1973, and December, 1974, and (b) 7.7 per cent between December, 1974, and December, 1975.

Mr. Kitt

Has any progress been made in the implementation of the common agricultural policy for sheep?

That would not be a matter for the Parliamentary Secretary.

Could we have the latest available figure?

It is Deputy Andrew's fault that the Deputy did not hear the reply the first time.

Not only the Chair but also the Parliamentary Secretary is being selective.

The estimated percentage drop in total sheep numbers was 4.7 per cent between December, 1973, and December, 1974, and 7.7 per cent between December, 1974 and December, 1975.

Do I take it that the numbers were down 4 per cent in 1974 and 7 per cent in 1975?

That is right.

Would he not consider that very serious?

On a point of order, you allowed Deputy Callanan, and properly so, to ask a supplementary question arising out of figures which the Parliamentary Secretary has given. You refused to allow me——

The ruling is clear.

The ruling is not clear.

Is it not due to the fact that there is an increase in the milk——

Question No. 5.

I have given the answer to the boys.
