Vol. 288 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport Service.

76.

asked the Minister for Education why free school transport is being denied to children (names supplied) who attend a school (name supplied) in County Galway.

These children are basically eligible for free school transport. However, they reside in a locality to the east of the school which is remote from the localities catered for by the two transport services operating to the school. Accordingly, it is not possible to cater for the children within the terms of the free transport scheme.

The names of the children appeared on the requisitions forwarded by the school authorities at the beginning of the school year and they were issued with travel permits in error by CIE. When it was subsequently discovered that no transport services operated near them CIE withdrew the travel permits.
