The question of diplomatic relations with countries like South Korea with which we do not at present have formal relations is kept under review in the light of our political, trade, consular and other international interests. While Ireland recognises and maintains normal relations with South Korea I do not at present foresee that our resources will permit the establishment of formal diplomatic relations with that country.
Is the Minister aware that the South Korean media recently publicised a proposal to have diplomatic relations with our country?
I am not aware of recent publicity on that matter in the South Korean media. I note that the Deputy said it.
